Video Programs
The
Ties That Bind
Learning
about Tefilin will never be more interesting. This short video packs the
power of feature film making and production qualities with insights into
what
“wrapping Tefilin” is all about. Rabbi David Wolpe takes you through
the history of Tefilin, tying this mitzvah from its origins to today’s
modern Conservative Jewish Community.
This
more than a “how-to.”
You’ll
learn all about the construction of the boxes, the prayers and how scribes
prepare the parchment for use in Tefilin. You’ll learn all about the
lift many Jews of all ages feel from fulfilling this mitzvah. Oh, yes,
there is a full demonstration of how to “wrap” Tefilin, and students
of all ages will be more willing to make this a part of their lives.
We
strongly urge you to screen this video with your Rabbi, your Religious
School Director and Adult Education Chair.
Suggested
Programming
-
Incorporate
into Religious School instruction for Bar/Bat Mitzvah students
-
Create
a special program for Bar/Bat Mitzvah families to take advantage of
expanded interest in
Jewish ritual and Jewish life
-
Use
as a Men’s Club Program for teaching about Tefilin and how to
“wrap” Tefilin
-
Make
it a segment of any Adult Education program on ritual and mitzvoth.
Suggested
Programming
- Use this as the centerpiece of a USY program for
all teenagers to drive home the horror of drinking and driving. This can
apply to younger teens, too, so they don’t ride with a drunken driver
and build the mindset not to drink and drive later
- Use in a joint Men’s Club/USY program on drinking
and driving. The film will facilitate discussion.
- Use in conjunction with public school driver
education programs to prevent drinking and driving.
Hearing
Men’s Voices
Our
Fathers/Ourselves
Explore
men’s roles in life as well as in the Jewish family and the synagogue.
The series of programs in this book brings new insights to men –
specifically Jewish men – of all ages. The various programs cover
fathers and sons, and we are both fathers and sons – even if,
unfortunately, our fathers are no longer a physical presence. Use this
book as a guide to a whole range of programs – from a short presentation
before a meeting to a full evening or morning session. This book was
distributed to all Clubs in the Region. Additional copies can be
ordered from FJMC for $7.95.
Body
& Spirit
The
second in our Hearing Men’s Voices series, this book contains a wealth
of programs and programming ideas that focus on health issues that concern
men. You’ll find ideas on discussing wellness as well as the diseases
and disabilities that affect men over time. You’ll find ideas on
suggested topics for health professionals to discuss for men only and
families. And, your rabbi, no doubt will have ideas on addressing health
and the relationship of spiritual and physical health. This book is
available from the FJMC for $7.95.

Listening
to God’s Voice
In some
ways, this third book in our Hearing Men’s Voices Series seem
superfluous. Worship and study were primarily male affairs, but all that
has changed and continues to evolve. Use this book to develop contemporary
aspects of the Divine personality that our mystics considered to be
particularly male and see how they might relate to our intellectual,
emotional and sexual/creative lives. Develop programs to help men deal
with traditional aspects of male spirituality and reformulate them for
today’s Conservative Jewish world. This book is available from FJMC for
$7.95
Work
and Worth
Groundbreaking essays on the significance of work in men’s lives. Includes
structured program ideas to explore work-related topics in your community.
Covers everything from security issues to workplace ethics, illness, and
the loss of a job. Contributors range from doctors and lawyers to rabbis
and cabinetmakers. This
book is available from FJMC for $12.95
Let's
Talk About It - A Book of Support and Guidance
Let's Talk About
It is the second part of the FJMC's discussion
of the issue of intermarriage that confronts us as a community and within
our own families. The book provides a pragmatic approach to keruv
(outreach) to intermarrieds with several thoughtful and creative
programming suggestions that really work. It is a volume not just for lay
people, but also for rabbis, cantors, and Jewish educators.
This
book is available from FJMC for $12.95
Yom
HaShoah Yellow Candle™ Program
Participate
in one of the FJMC’s and Northern New Jersey Region’s leading
education programs. Distributing the Yom HaShoah Yellow Candle throughout
your synagogue does more than help keep alive the memory of the Six
Million Jews who were killed in Nazi concentration camps. It also lends
itself to a variety of Religious School and Adult Education programs on
the need to fight hate and bias crimes and promote harmony throughout our
North American Experience.
